Join Awful Purdies for a concert celebrating their third album All Recipes Are Home at the Englert Theatre on June 27, at 7 p.m. All Recipes Are Home is the culmination of a year long project in which Awful Purdies received project support from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts to travel around the state playing concerts for and interviewing farmers and food workers in what the Purdies describe as "story circles." In addition, Awful Purdies received a song writing commission from Working Group Theatre to write songs to be included in the the new play All Recipes Are Home, which gives this new album it's name.
The All Recipes Are Home collection adds a variety of Iowa-centric songs to Awful Purdies catalog of folk music. The concert will include songs from the new album, older material that was included in the theatrical production of All Recipes Are Home and stories of the Iowans that Awful Purdies met along the way. All Recipes Are Home will be available for purchase the night of the concert as a download card from Maximum Ames Records attached to a packet of seeds from Seed Savers Exchange. Plant those seeds, grow some food and sit down to listen! The album is also available online at:
Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for youth ages 18 and under.
